Room Sharing and Triple Bunk Bed DIY

Gender Neutral Shared Kid's Room

We have been discussing combining our three kids into one room for awhile! Our five year old boy is very attached to our two year old boy-girl twins. Thankfully he was completely on board!

In our three bedroom home, both the kid's rooms are small! We also have regular family and friend visitors. There were so many pros to combining our kids, including having a designated space for guest that could also function as a playroom. Making three beds fit in the larger of our spare rooms and functional was definitely an uncertainty but a month in and everyone's doing really well!

My husband built our older son a lofted bed by building the frame and attaching it via 2x4s into the studs of the wall. He used a pipe to anchor the end of the bed because of the position of the closet we could not anchor it to the other wall.

We made the bed larger than the size of a twin bed so he could have some space up there for his alarm clock, water, a toy bin if wanted, and it makes it really easy on us to climb up there and change the sheets!! I added a shelf that also fits his books!

Our twins frames are very simple and separated by a small nightstand that we already owned.  The frames can be pushed together to create a king sized bed if we have multiple visitors over the holidays and can be easily moved!

I knew I wanted Beddy's Beds for all the kids beds, first because of the ease of making the beds with them. They look nice surrounding the whole mattress neatly and it turns out the kids are not just obsessed with the zipper feature, they are so cozy! I had a set on the guest bed while we were finishing their beds and now I'm sad I had to put it in their room!

My oldest was asking for Spiderman sheets until he saw and climbed into his Beddy's! He calls them his "Oh So Cozy" sheets and seeing as I was so worried he would be disappointed with them I'm pretty thrilled about that! A little mom guilt on not getting him character sheets was quickly evaporated when a good friend reminded me, kids move on from favorites pretty quickly. Having a bright cozy space that I feel calm in has made them equally if not more happy!

We went with their "Oh So Boho" for the boys (sounds a lot like "Oh So Cozy" right?) and Goldie Dot for Emmy! I was debated the Vintage Blush, but my daughter is Polkadot OBSESSED and she's my little golden girl so Goldie Dot was perfect and keeps the room pretty gender neutral! Their room is our favorite in the house right now and a very cozy happy space!
